Unlike during the Ayutthaya period, from the early days of Bangkok, intermarriages between the Thai and the Chinese have been common practice among the elite. This phenomenon has been on going for generations and is evidently seen the Chinese influence on Thai art and architecture. A number of Chinese literary works have been translated into Thai. Among the best-known ones is Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The key characters from this story, such as Kuan Yu and Zhuge Liang (known in Thai as Kong-Beng) are well known among Thai readers. Zhuge Liang is known as a sagacious strategist and his story has been told from time to time until nowadays.
